From the desk of Samy,
Hi all!
Waw, that’s kinda weird: I’m writing in my blog again ! Indeed, I never wanted to give it up but I had no choice but to stop posting… University consumes too much time. Luckily, I’m going to finish (at least, I hope so) this year… My first degree
But the most difficult one as well. Anyway, I would like to explain a bit why I’m back around…
I started my first blog in 2007 without much idea about what I was gonna write but my goal was to improve my English skills: I wanted to pass PCE a year or two ago (I didn’t have time to get ready for it though, so I’ll try to pass it on June… Supposedly). In a few months, I realized that wordpress.com wasn’t as good as I had thought at the beginning due to all the implied restrictions so I decided to switch my hosting to wordpress.org: just download the wordpress code, a few clicks more and sign up in a free webhosting (000webhost.com… It seemed really good). Everything was fine and I daresay lots of my posts were really good: I used to write about engineering and so on with a bit of humour. Some posts even appeared in the front page of popular online newspapers and I earn a few bucks with some ads (I had a good PR).
Afterwards, my time was so reduced that involuntarily I didn’t jot anything down for a while and at the same time, the few moments I had I spent it in poker (playing, coaching, producing videos, evaluating hands…) and also writing just a few lines in a log focused on poker.
A few days ago I tried to access my blog after… What? 1 year? ages at least. And wtf, my hosting had removed it ! After a few tickets with the support, they told me that there wasn’t any option but to start it again: the server where my blog was hosted crashed and they didn’t have any back up (neither do I). I didn’t wanted to lose all the efforts I had put in that blog so I quickly tried to recover my old posts using the google’s cache and the web’s archive but for some posts it was too late: already gone. At the end, among all, I’ve lost two important posts for me (SSH How-to in Linux and a conference by Dra. Elena Valderrama from micro to nano systems) but it could have been even worse.
If I was going to write in my blog again, why not merge everything? I mean, I had a log in pokerstrategy.com but I could go ahead here and at the same time, preserving my old posts. So that’s what I’m gonna do. However, this time, I’m using a private hosting (dreamhost) to make sure that nothing bad happens again
This is my company’s father hosting (http://tecnotor.com/blog), maintained by me, but I’ve bought 2-3 domains so that everybody will be able to access here easily. You can access here with these two URLs:
http://theultimatemind.com
http://theultimatemind.es
Probably, I’ll buy another domain later.
I’ve copied all the old posts I’ve been able to recover. I know there ain’t as good as they were in the older blog but I didn’t feel like formatting every single post so I just did the easy copy-paste stuff that we are all used to. Â From now on, I’ll talk about engineering, poker, humour and whatever crosses my mind !!
Enjoy your stay and add me @ our blogroll/favourites
I’ll do the same
Samy
PS: I still have to touch up the website but I haven’t got time yet
I’ll change all the pictures
In fact, I’ll make a competition with some cash for the winner… I’ll post it @Pokerstrategy’s forum !
PS 2: OMFG, I knew a lot about SEO two years ago but I remember nothing right now (and furthermore, things may have changed). I’ll have to read a lot again… shit !
PS 3: BTW, I have to finish programming tecnotor.com yet !!
